I haven’t created a Wood Dragon image in nearly three years, and it was great to go back into this world. I knew this would be a fairly involved image, so I wanted to try to document all the stages as I went along. This isn’t so much a tutorial as a walkthrough, but hopefully it will give you an insight into this way of working

Istvan Burger, the Editor of the Hungarian sci-fi magazine, was good enough to give me the cover earlier this year, with Fathom. Thanks Istvan!

Last week I was accepted into the Illustrator’s Guild of Ireland, something I have long dreamed about. Check out the site, chock-full of incredible work from some truly wonderful artists. Thanks to everyone on the panel who approved my application!

Not so much a tutorial as a Work in Progress, showing the evolution of an image from initial idea to final scene. This image took about 6 weeks, all told, so there are many, many hours of work between all these steps. The image ended up being around 10000px wide, and was around a Gig per save, so I had to save over a lot of increments to conserve space. These are the key steps.
